Name of the Wind - Sketches by Orcagirl2001 Name of the Wind - Sketches by Orcagirl2001
My sister is reading to me an awesome novel called "The Name of the Wind." We're about a quarter into this 600 page book, and it's really great!
From the first chapter I wanted to draw some illustrations for it, so I started doodling a couple characters. There's so much to go through!

Here I sketched the main character Kvothe on the bottom middle, a drawing I'm really proud of!
Bast on the right with the dark hair (terrible drawing *cough*) I'm sure he's much prettier.
And Cinder, a mysterious character who I won't give any details concerning. All I'll say is he's supposed to be icy looking because he's a man of frost? i think? O_o

Anywho, probably more will come from this book. I can't wait to hear the next chapter! Everyone should read this book! "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss. You can find him here on DA too :iconkvothe:

I really love how you did Cinder. You've really captured a cruel meanness in his features that I associate with this character. Well done!!

Why thank you. I've always viewed Cinder as highly creepy, especially the way he spoke to young Kvothe. But his discription is intriguing. I mean, how does one look and sound like ice, or have a nightmare grin? I tried to bring it to life. Thanks for having a look!

You did a wonderful job bringing him to life... and he does remind me of ice the way you drew him, partly because of his white hair, and how his eyes are so sharp-looking.
Out of curiosity, how do you picture Master Elodin? Everybody seems to think something different about him.

Thank you! I haven't attempted Elodin yet. Although I really love his character. I guess I imagine him more of a slightly built man, average height and lanky, but his face...its hard. Someday I'll attempt it, but what I will include is a somewhat 'mad' look, because he's so smart he's nuts. That's what I love about him!

My problem is the body *laugh* thx to deviantart I found a tutorial there for ;)

The name of the wind is really a great book, when I read it I often forgot that Kvothe telling his story, on one point there was a interlude and I was really out of the story :O

Yes, after a while you get so lost in the story, that it's hard to get pulled back to the 'present time' of the book. that has to be my favorite novel! i want to do more fan art from it but i can't remember all that happened now. have to read it again. you know the next book "Wise Man's Fear" is coming out next year! I can't wait to read it!!!

Why is it that long -.- good that there is Tad William (my favorite author ^^)
You coul draw something about Bast, maybe when the Chronicler try to bind him. I like that scene.
Ah I hope there is more about Bast past in the next book, but I donīt think so. My feelings tell me he is a story for the last book.

Well, it's Rothfuss' second novel he's ever written so I'm sure
he's editing as we speak, trying to make it perfect.
I do want to illustrate the scene with Bast and the Chronicler.
Man, ANY scene with Bast, he's my favorite character. So dark and mysterious.
I wonder really how he met Kvothe and why he calls him Reishi. The second book
is going to go into that, which is very exciting!

Yeah Bast is great, but I donīt have a real favorit, mayby Cinder, because heīs so cruel or Elodin, maybe Bast, too.
I like the way he love Kvothe, like a mother who wana save their children no matter what.
At the same time he is an egoist, too. not allowing Kvothe to live his live like he choose it.
I have told a classmate about the book and now she wanna read it -.-
Great now I can carry two books at the same time, one for her and one for me, because I need some letters with magic and other worlds in my freetime (resess).
What other books are you reading?

My favorites are definitely Bast and Cinder.
Cinder has such a brief appearance that it made him
all the more mysterious. Though we could have done without the
whole 'Remember I'm your superior' *bash over the head* blah-blah from the Leader.
But I was always interested in Cinder cold appearance.
And also the mystery of Bast, like where he came from. I can't wait to read more about
these wonderful characters. And Elodin made me laugh. My favorite part was when he and
Kvothe when into that tower (i think it was for the insane) and Elodin told him
to jump from a window, believing in the wind, and he would float down. But when he did
he fell on his butt and Elodin was like 'that was the stupidest thing I've ever seen!'
I laughed so hard! He's a trip, sliding across the title hallways in his socks. What a ham!
I'd love to have him as a teacher...though I wouldn't jump out a window if he told me to.
Anyway, I'm rambling. Sorry. But yes, tell everybody about this book! It's the best!

These are the best I've seen. For the level awsome that this book deserves there aren't too many people drawing the inspiration. You have captured cynder so very well! It's the smile. Wow... I just can't compliment u enough... I don't Have any visual works on my page yet but I was thinking of drawing cynder then - poof - there he was! If I could favorite this more than once I would. *giggles* I'm practically euphoric!
